Backyard Baseball

Frank Thomas stepped up to the plate. The most feared hitter in all the land brought shivers through the spines of opposing pitchers. No one could sneak a pitch by The Big Hurt, especially with men on base.”

Hockey Playoffs Seriously?

As the sun sets on another year of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, we are reminded of a few things about the NHL in general.

1)      The Stanley Cup Playoffs are tremendous and top the playoffs in any other sport as far as excitement and unpredictability.

Things You Should Expect When Adopting A Puppy

Getting a puppy of their own is every child’s dream.  But let’s not fool ourselves, we adults really want one too. The good thing is that adopting a puppy or adult dog would be a great addition to your family and teach your kids how to take care of a pet. So, there are some important issues you should know about and consider before you go down that path.

When will it end…..when we end it ourselves!

As I go thru the day, I find myself thinking about the Swastika incident in the neighborhood I grew up in.  I have always known that historically antisemitism rears it’s ugly head when the economy is at it’s worse.  It seems that people look for an easy scapegoat to lay their troubles on.  They choose not to blame themselves, work to improve their life or truly understand the nature of the problems we face today.  Rather they would like to turn and “blame the Jews”.

A manager’s dilemma – Dress Code

What do you do when an employee dresses “inappropriately” in an office without an official or rigid dress code?

<iframe src=”http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=marneencom-20&o=1&p=26&l=ur1&category=officeschoolsupplies&banner=1F3G62VQ729XAMX9MCR2&f=ifr” width=”468″ height=”60″ scrolling=”no” border=”0″ marginwidth=”0″ style=”border:none;” frameborder=”0″></iframe>

I have seen this problem rear it’s head many times and in different scenarios.

Scenario #1 – An employee that wears, what some would call offensive, explicit T-shirts.  Not everyone is offended, but one or two employees may be.  As a manager, you may not think the shirt is offensive, however, you still need to be responsive to the complaining employee.  In this scenario I would suggest having the complaining employee email you their complaint, or verbalize with witness present.  After doing so, you can approach the “offending” employee and ask them not to wear that shirt to the office again.  You need not reveal the identity of the complaining employee at this point or ever if it matter is put to rest.

Man’s Best Friend and so much more than that.

The Mighty Puc
A Better Companion there was not.

When I think about the greatest friends I have and have ever had, I can’t help but think of Puc.  Puc, a Rottweiler/Terrier mix, was truly an incredible friend and companion.

Puc came into my life in May of 1999, he picked me, I did not pick him.  I went to Bide-A-Wee adoption center in Manhattan to get a dog to keep with me at my shop in LIC.  My good friend John Ames and I went together, John being a huge dog lover himself. Admittedly, he convinced me to take the leap.

Friendship and Wedding Bliss

So, at long last, one of my last single very close guy friends is taking the plunge into wedded bliss.  Gotta say, this guy was one of the real holdouts, or so I thought.

I have many friends, many good friends, some close friends and then there is my “Crew”.  David Bressler is from the “Crew”.  Nobody knows me better than my “Crew” and these are the folks that I know will be part of my life til the end……and beyond.  So being able to go to this wedding, as I have done with the rest of the Crew, is more special than words can possibly convey.

To Noni or not to Noni…..that is the question!

Those of you that know me, know that I am an advocate of  supplements.  Specifically of vitamins and minerals.  My belief has always been that taking vitamins, although some gets wasted,  can only help you and your body will indeed use whatever it can.  We all know that the RDA is ridiculous.

So, in that frame of mind…….

A good friend of mine introduced me to a product which at first I was pretty skeptical.  You hear about all kinds of “super” drinks all the time.  She told me that I must try this elixir called Noni.  So, I did some of my own research and of course found much hype.  All those promises and exaggerations….blah blah blah.  It’s enough to turn away the more serious “investigators”.

Watermelon……really? The ignored fruit.

Contrary to popular belief, Watermelon is packed with nutrition.

I often find that folks have no clue about the value of this seemingly benign fruit, the Watermelon.  Well, I decided to look into it a little further and share my findings.

I always knew that this fruit contained fiber and some B vitamins, but I was still impressed with the nutritional content.

Let’s start with the basics…

No “pipes” on this two wheeler!

Who knew the day would come that we would see an electric Harley Davidson.

Alright…it’s not a Harley, but, it is made here in the USA and it is indeed fully electric.  Evolve Motorcycles has unleashed the newest and most appropriate mode of transportation in NYC yet (in my opinion).  These new “hogs” come in three different models sure to fit one of your urban needs.

Top of the Evolve food chain.

Pictured above is the Evolve Titanium, the top of their current line.
